A simple solution - ask for precise documentation from these companies on exactly what is certified organic. Few are capable of providing this information.

To have a certified organic product a product must be composed of ingredients that meet strict certified organic standards throughout the entire harvesting, manufacturing & production process. This means that all operations leading to the finished product must be certified by a USDA-accredited organic agent. This includes the producers of organic agricultural ingredients & raw materials right to the handlers & manufacturers.

Except for Castile, body washes & most shampoos etc cannot be USDA certified organic because of their very nature, as surfactants cannot be certified organic. The surfactants that go into an organic product removes the end product from certified organic status. This is a reason why JoPaulo Naturals sulphate free products which contain a very high percentage of listed certified organic ingredients is not able to be labeled marked "Certified Organic".

When a company claim their products to be "Certified Organic", ask if each ingredient in that product is also certified organic or on the NOP list. If each ingredient is certified organic, ask for a list of ingredients & verification to prove that each one is certified organic.
