Understanding Shampoos

The vital role of shampoo is to remove bodily secretions, dust, pollutants & residues of hair styling products like wax, hairspray & other styling products. The scalp needs to be cleansed in order to have a healthy environment for the hair to grow. Beware of fad products claiming that hair can be shampooed with a “Cleansing Conditioner" (conditioners marketed as hair cleansers).
A good shampoo should remove grease & water-soluble dirt without stripping the natural oil in the hair, leaving it slightly dry & crunchy. The active ingredient in a shampoo
that does this is called a surfactant.
Surfactants remove dirt from the hair's surface, dispersing it in the washing solution so that it is not redeposited on the clean hair or scalp. This is generally aided by the foaming up action & hence why shampoos foam up. Surfactants are basically detergents.
Detergents are mostly synthetically produced but often are natural derived material such as palm kernel or coconut oil. Using totally natural 'shampoos' or a soap-based alternative can lead to dull damaged looking hair.
JoPaulo Naturals uses gentle but effective surfactants balanced with herbs, natural oils & essential oils which provide natural benefits. A combination of a shampoo with a high percentage of natural ingredients that works without damaging the hair.
